Do I need to present the Covid-19 test result?

It is a mandatory requirement for all tourists to present a Negative result for a nucleic acid test (PCR test) for Covid-19 on arrival, effective from 10th September 2020.


The sample for the said test must be taken not more than 96 hours prior to the scheduled time of departure from the first port of embarkation en route to Maldives. However, be informed that infants aged less than one-year-old are exempted from the aforementioned testing requirement.


Persons who have a history of contact with a suspected or confirmed case of COVID-19 within the past 14 days and/or persons who have fever or respiratory symptoms such as cough, sore throat, shortness of breath within the past 14 days should not travel to the Maldives.

How can I submit the negative Covid-19 test result?

The negative Covid-19 PCR test result must be attached while completing Traveler Health Declaration form, which has to be submitted online by all arriving passengers prior to arrival (but not exceeding 24 hours before arrival time), via IMUGA (www.imuga.immigration.gov.mv).

Do I have to make a booking before I come for my holiday?

Yes! You must have a confirmed booking at a registered tourist facility.

Has the Visa Process changed?

No, Maldives Immigration issues on-arrival visa to all tourists.

What is the process for completing the Traveler Health Declaration Form?

Traveller Health Declaration (THD) must be filled in and submitted by all travelers travelling to and from Maldives, within 24 hours prior to their travel.

Is it required to test for COVID-19 on arrival?

No. Only those who have COVID-19 like symptoms, such as a temperature above 38 degrees celsius, coughing or sneezing, will be tested for COVID-19.
 

Persons who have a history of contact with a suspected or confirmed case of COVID-19 within the past 14 days and/or persons who have fever or respiratory symptoms such as cough, sore throat, shortness of breath within the past 14 days should not travel to the Maldives.

What kind of tests will be done before I can go to my hotel?

All tourists will undergo non-intrusive temperature checks and screening on arrival to the Maldives.

You may also be chosen for a random COVID-19 PCR test by Maldivian Health Authorities. This is a voluntary test.

Do I have to pay if I get chosen for random testing?

No, if chosen for random testing on arrival, the Maldives government will bear the cost for testing.

Do I have to spend 14 days in quarantine before I can start my holiday?

No, tourists who do not have COVID-19 symptoms are not required to quarantine on arrival to the Maldives.

Do I have to wear a mask?

Yes.

All tourists are required to wear facemasks at the airport, during domestic travel and in all enclosed public spaces.

How will I know the social distancing practices to follow at the airport?

All physical distancing guidelines are clearly marked with visible distance information and floor markings in passenger terminals. Hand sanitisation and hygiene facilities are also available throughout the airport.

How will I get to my hotel?

A representative from our hotel will be at the airport to assist you with the speedboat transfer and also you may visit our airport counter F3 incase if you did not meet our colleague. 

Can I visit different tourist establishments while on holiday?

Yes, tourists are allowed to travel from one resort to another, from one guesthouse to another and from a resort to a tourist guesthouse and vice versa.

For approval of inter-island travels, it is mendotory to submit a split stay request form to Ministry of Tourism 2 days prior to your departure to next island/resort. The cost of split stay temperature check-up is MVR 200 (US$13.33) per pax and must be paid directly to Health Center.
 

Do I have to do a COVID-19 test before I can leave the Maldives?

If a tourist has stayed a tourist guesthouse at any point during their stay in Maldives, they are required to conduct a PCR test 72hrs prior to their scheduled departure from Maldives.

In addition, during exit screening if any tourist is found to have fever or symptoms suggestive of COVID-19 within the past 14 days, they must undergo PCR testing for COVID-19.

For the purposes of contact tracing, it is important that the tourist informs the tourist establishment, if they test positive for COVID-19 after returning to their destination from the Maldives.

What can I do to have a safer holiday experience in the Maldives? 

We encourage all visitors to install the Maldives’ contact tracing app ‘TraceEkee’ (App Store / Play Store) before arrival into the country to help us ensure your safety and the safety of others as you enjoy your holiday.

Please remember to practice good hygiene, frequent handwashing/use of hand sanitizer, respiratory etiquette and maintain at least 3 feet of physical distance between others outside your contact bubble, throughout your trip.

How can i do the PCR test before departure?

The PCR test for departure can be done at Nala Veli, Ukulhas - via Ukulhas Health Center. The cost of PCR test is US$100 per pax (all ages)

When do i get the result for my departure PCR test?

We will provide you the negative PCR test result one day prior to your departure. If the result of the PCR gets positive, it will be sent to HPA (Health Protection Agency) for further actions. 

What happens if the result gets positve - can a retest be done?

We regret to inform that unfortunately if a result is positive, it is not possible to do re-testing. If the results are positive further actions will be taken by Ukulhas COVID Task force team and Ukulhas Health Center. We strongly recommend our guest to isolate themselves in the room until any further notice from authorities till move to quarantine facility. 

What happens if my partner is positive and i get negative PCR result?

If both are sharing the same room and one has positive and the other has negative PCR result. Both will go for 14 days quarantine according to goverment regulations and unfortunately will not be able to fly back.

Who bares the cost of Quarantine Facility in case of positive and negative isolation?

The cost will be born by guest directly. We strongly suggest all guest to do an insurance prior to arrival to Maldives to cover such a situation. In case of negative and still has to go quarantine due to direct contact tracing confirmation also will apply the same. Please note that most of insurance does not cover the cost of negative resuls which has to undergo for quarantine due to tracing with a postive case. Therefore, we request to review your insurance policy.
